Industry Minister Virtually Attends Meeting Chaired by Nirmala Sitharaman
Bengaluru: The State Government is working expeditiously to develop Tumakuru as a major industrial manufacturing hub after Bengaluru. For this purpose, 1,736 acres have been earmarked, which is expected to attract an investment of Rs 7,000 crore, Large and Medium Industries Minister M.B. Patil said on Monday.
He was speaking virtually at the third meeting of the Apex Monitoring Authority of the National Industrial Corridor Development and Implementation Trust, chaired by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.
The Tumakuru Node of the Bengaluru–Chennai Industrial Corridor has so far achieved 30 per cent physical progress and 20 per cent financial progress. Of the land earmarked for the project, 300 acres have been allotted for a Japan Industrial Township and 200 acres for micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs). The development of the Tumakuru Node is expected to generate more than 88,000 jobs, he said.
Jindal Aluminium is the anchor investor in the node and has been allotted 151 acres. Another 41 acres has been earmarked for institutional use. Land acquisition is progressing smoothly, and the project is scheduled for completion in 2027. The node will prioritise sectors such as food and beverages, textiles and apparel, electronics, chemicals, general engineering and logistics, he explained.
Similarly, the PM MITRA Industrial Park sanctioned for Kalaburagi and the projects sanctioned to the State under the ‘BHAVYA’ initiative will also be completed. The State Government will extend all necessary support to the Centre in this regard, he assured.
Under this Central Government initiative, 11 industrial corridors and 20 smart cities are being developed across 13 States. Of these, four smart city projects have been completed, while the remaining 16 are at various stages of development.
As part of this initiative, the Bengaluru–Chennai, Bengaluru–Hyderabad and Bengaluru–Mumbai Industrial Corridors are being developed. The project, estimated to cost Rs 50,759 crore, has the potential to attract investments of Rs 5.35 lakh crore and aims to generate 14 lakh jobs. The ambitious project, which will be implemented across a total area of 49,120 acres, will see 100 industrial parks being established under the ‘BHAVYA’ initiative, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman noted.
Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal, Chief Ministers and Industries Ministers of all the States attended the meeting. S. Selvakumar, Principal Secretary, Department of Industries; Nakul, Secretary to the Chief Minister; and Govinda Reddy, CEO, KIADB, were among the officials who were present.
